I know right now is the time in your life when you will feel absolutely defeated to the point where you’ll wish you could quietly disappear from the face of the earth. It may even happen more than once. You will feel like you have lost. And you will feel lost. The world will seem much colder than it already is, and it’ll feel like it is crumbling before your very own eyes. You’ll have no grasp on anything or anyone. Your hopes and dreams will slip through the spaces between your fingers like sand. Giving up will seem to be your only option, because you cannot see any hint of light at the end of your tunnel. You will be entirely engulfed by sadness and think, “It can’t get any worse than this.”
But you can’t stop. You can rest, but you can’t stop. You have to continue. You must search and hang on to the very last few strands of hope that lies deep inside you. Make it through the day, and make it through the next day. And the day after that, and so on and so forth. Days will turn into weeks and weeks will turn into months. Before you even know it, there will be a moment where you’ll look at yourself and see how far you’ve come—how long you’ve survived. And I can assure you that the very moment that realization comes to you, you will be standing in a far better off place than you once was. And if you can make it through all of that, what makes you think you can’t graze through anything else that comes your way?
